Book Review: Short-Straw Bride

Product Details

Short Straw Bride by Karen Witemeyer

From the back cover:  No on steps on Archer Land.  Not if you they value their life.  But when Meredith Hayes overhears a plot to burn the Archer brothers off their ranch, a long-standing debt compels her to take the risk.

Years of constant vigilance harden a man.  Yet when Travis Archer comes across a female trespasser with the same vivid blue eyes as the courageous young girl he once aided, he can’t bring himself to send her away.  And when an act of sacrifice leaves her injured and her reputation in shreds, gratitude and guilt prompt him to attempt to rescue her once again.

Despite the fact that Travis is no longer the gallant youth Meredith once dreamed about, she vows to stand by his side.  But will love ever be hers?  Or will Travis always see her as merely a short-straw bride

I enjoyed this book mostly for the characters.  The plot once you get into it is mostly predicable but the characters are fun to fall in love with.  Meredith is a sweetheart with a strong will.  Travis is very stubborn it appears but yet you love him for his tenderheartedness.  Meredith’s cousin is fun to watch her part in the plot.  I also enjoyed each of Archer brothers and they parts they played on the ranch and the plot.  This is a Christian Fiction book and I thought it has just the right amount of “Christian Doctrine” to make it interesting but not overwhelming.

I would give this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.

And yes, I received this book for free from Bethany House for this review.  But I told the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!
